The Japanese squad were on all courts and displayed their happy appearance in front of 1,200 Japanese fans in Yoyogi No.1 National Stadium on day 3 of the YONEXOpen Japan 2006, yesterday.
Among the Japanese players, Kaori Mori in Women’s singles, Keita Masuda & Tadashi Ohtsuka and Shuichi Sakamoto & Shintaro Sakamoto in Men’s doubles, Aki Akao & Tomomi Matsuda in Women’s doubles succeeded in entering the Quarter-Finals onday 4 today.
Koichi Saeki had beaten 9th seed Ng Wei, Hong Kong China at the first round, faced unseeded Taufic Hidayat, who also had beaten 3rd seed, Bao Chunlai, China. Saeki failed to come up with his supporters’ expectations to win the game. In thefinal game, Saeki gained 5 points in a raw from 13-7 to 13-12, however Taufic closed the game 21-16 eventually.
Saeki lost the match 1 to 2 (22-20, 7-21, 16-21) against Taufic.
Saeki commented “ I tried very hard to concentrate on each rally to get the point one by one and I think I cloud do that in the first game. However Taufic was too strong to continue the way I maneuvered in the first game.”
