Men's Singles

Sony Dwi KUNCORO (Indonesia) Vs. Lee Chong WEI (Malaysia)
Kuncoro won in straight set by 21-17 and 21-11. This is his first winning in Japan Super Series competition.
The 1st game was very tight as both players alternaltely led the score. Lee actually took the control of the game up to the interval, leading with 11-10. Kuncoro who played in a relax mode changed his play to be more “controlled” aggressive. He still could manage his rhythm and determination, resulting a winning game for him with score of 21-17.
Sony dominated the second game and won by 21-11. He kept determining the game as he could develop his play and overwhelmingly won the final match.
Kuncoro said that his triumph was due to his decision to play relaxedly without any pressure to win the game.
On the other hand, Lee said that his defeat was caused by his problem in handling Sony’s rhythm and speed.
Women's Singles

Wang YIHAN (China) Vs. Zhou LI (Hongkong)
Wang won in rubber set 21-19, 17-21, and 21-15 over Zhou. 20 years old Wang from Shanghai, who started to play badiminton at 9, said that Yonex Open Japan 2008 is her first big event which she could exert her full power. “Zhou is a strong player, but I had anticipated the match”, she added.
Men's Doubles

Lars PAASKE/Jonas RASMUSSEN (Denmark) Vs. Muhammad AHSAN/Bona SEPTANO (Indonesia)
Ahsan / Septano have to admit that Paaske / Rasmussen played better as the Danish pair won the game with rubber set 21-17, 15-21, and 21-13.
During the interview, Ahsan / Septano commented that they have done their best but Paaske / Rasmussen have more experiences and were much more relaxed during the match, while they played nervously, causing a lot of mistakes.
Ahsan said that this final match was unexpected. He and Septano are BWF World ranked #44 but could manage until the final. Thus, basically he is happy with the result.
Women's Doubles

Shu CHENG/Yunlei ZHAO (China) Vs. Eei Hui CHIN/Pei Tty WONG (Malaysia)
Suprisingly, the Chinese pair won the match with rubber set 21-19, 5-21, and 21-18. This is their first winning in Super Series. Chinese pair could develop their play very well in the first game. Malaysian pair controlled the 2nd game and won with defensive tactic, but in the 3rd game they failed to manage the rhythm and lost.
Mixed Doubles

Nova WIDIANTO/Liliyana NATSIR vs. Muhammad RIJAL/Vita MARISSA (All Indonesian Final)
Rijal/Marissa defeated BWF World #1 with rubber set: 14-21, 21-15 and 21-19. During the 1st game, Widianto/Natsir controlled the game and pushed the opponent. They led the scoresheet without any turning points and finished the game by 14-21.
In the 2nd game, Widianto/Natsir led the game until 4 points but Rijal/Marissa changed their style with more aggressive play and had 3 consecutive points. They then kept leading the game and won by 21-15.

During the 3rd game, Rijal/Marissa kept leading the score in a very tight play and ended the game with 21-19.
This is a second final for Widianto/Natsir in the same competition as they did last year. Widianto said during the postmacth interview that they still feel exhausted after the Beijing Olympic. They still could stay focused during the 3rd game, however, due to lack of stamina, they lost.
On the other hand Rijal and Marissa who played together for the first time, commented that their victory is a good start for their future. It was influenced by Marissa’s experience since she has partnered with 4 different Indonesian players and always became a winning team.
